STORY 1: NASA Shares September’s Skywatching Guide Our first story begins after sunset, when the sky slowly turns dark blue and tiny points of light start to appear. NASA has shared its September 2026 skywatching guide, with tips for easy things families can look for in the night sky. Skywatching is exactly what it sounds like: going outside, looking up, and noticing what you can see. Depending on where you live and what the weather is like, a sky guide may point you toward the Moon, bright planets, or patterns of stars called constellations. The fun part is that you do not need to be a professional astronomer to begin. You can start with your own eyes, a safe outdoor spot, and a little patience. One night, you might notice the Moon looks like a thin smile. A few nights later, it may look rounder. That change is called the Moon’s phase. You might also spot a bright object that does not twinkle as much as the stars around it. Sometimes, that object is a planet. Scientists do not have to stand right next to an iceberg to study it. That would be difficult and dangerous. Instead, they can use satellite pictures from above Earth. Satellites can help researchers see where ice is moving, whether it breaks apart, and how Arctic landscapes are changing. When the iceberg ran into Joe Island, it might sound like a crash in a cartoon. But real ice movement can be slow, powerful, and complicated. Scientists study these events carefully because ice, ocean water, wind, and temperature all work together. NASA’s report is a good example of how Earth science can happen from space.
